The sixth-ranked Michigan rowing team travels to Columbus, Ohio, for a double-dual meet with No. 16 Iowa and No. 9 Wisconsin on Saturday (April 8). The morning races against Wisconsin begin at 9 a.m. and the afternoon races against Iowa start at 1 p.m. at Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River.
The Forecast
The forecast calls for scattered showers on Saturday (April 8) with a high around 56 degrees and a low around 33 degrees.
Last Year Against Wisconsin and Iowa
The Wolverines swept the varsity competition against the Badgers and the Hawkeyes on April 10, 1999. The first varsity eight defeated Iowa by over seven seconds and Wisconsin by over 15 seconds despite poor conditions, including winds up to 30 miles per hour. The Wolverines' second varsity eight and varsity four boats each won both of their races. In the novice competition, Michigan's first novice eight and second novice eight each beat Iowa but neither boat could overtake Wisconsin.
Michigan in the Polls
Michigan's crew is ranked sixth in the preseason USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll (Feb. 16). Brown University, the defending national champion, is ranked No. 1. The USRowing/CRCA poll will be conducted weekly beginning April 5.
Home Rowing Information
For the first time in two years, the Wolverines will host a regatta. The site of Michigan's home regattas against Notre Dame and Ohio State on Saturday, April 15, and against Michigan State on Sunday, April 16, will be determined next week. The two sites under consideration are Ford Lake in Ypsilanti and Belleville Lake in Belleville, the site of the U-M's new boathouse and the location of the team's practices. Both races will begin at 9 a.m.
