Indiana Beats No. 20-Ranked Wolverines, 5-2

Indiana jumped out to a 1-0 advantage as it swept all three doubles matches for the team point. Ian Arons and Gabe Montilla defeated U-M senior Matt Wright (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Collegiate HS) and sophomore Danny McCain (Largo, Fla./Canterbury School) by an 8-6 score at the No. 1 spot. The Hoosiers secured the team point as Paul Jacobson and Rahman Smiley with an 8-5 victory over senior Ron Nano (Great Neck, N.Y./South HS) and sophomore Henry Beam (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix HS) at the No. 3 spot. The pairing of Milan Rakvica and George McGill closed out the sweep with a 9-7 victory against senior co-captain John Long (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) and freshman Zach Held (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central HS) at the No. 2 spot.
In singles, the Wolverines were unable to claim the four victories they needed to win the match, landing wins at only the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Matt Wright posted a 6-4, 7-6 victory (7-0 in tie-break) over Milan Rakvica at the top singles spot, and Henry Beam managed a 6-4, 6-4 win over Gabe Montilla at No. 3. Indiana got straight-set wins from George McGill (No. 4) and Paul Jacobson (No. 5), while Ian Arons (No. 2) and Rahman Smiley (No. 6) won three-set matches to claim the 5-2 win for the Hoosiers.
Michigan hosts Purdue tomorrow (Sunday, April 9) at the Varsity Tennis Center, beginning at 1 p.m.
