Forward, Hrovat to Represent U.S. in International Meets

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Michigan freshman wrestler Clark Forward (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold HS) was crowned the 63kg (138.75 lbs.) freestyle champion of the 2000 FILA Junior National Championships and World Team Trials on Sunday (May 14) at the University of Nebraska's Bob Devaney Sports Center Arena.
Forward will represent the U.S. at the Junior World Championship in Nantes, France, on July 3-9. The Wolverine grappler pinned Zhon Kunasprdiani of Bakersfield, Calif., at 5:50 to claim the title. Forward was redshirted this past season for the Maize and Blue, compiling an 18-3 record in open tournaments. He won individual titles at the Eastern Michigan Open (Nov. 4, 1999) and the Capital Crusader Open (Jan. 9).

Sophomore Andy Hrovat (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Edwards HS) placed second in the 85kg (187.25 lbs.) freestyle class, losing 6-3 to Damion Hahn of Caldewood, N.J., in the championship match. Hrovat, a 1999 All-American, will go on to compete at the Pan American Games in Peru in July. Hrovat was a top competitor for the Wolverines last season, boasting a 25-9 record.
Also competing were redshirt freshman Tony Holifield (Mt. Morris, Mich./E.A. Johnson HS), who placed sixth at 69kg (152lbs.), and A.J. Grant (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston HS).
