Clifford, making her first appearance in an NCAA track and field championship, placed 14th out of 20 entrants with a time of 34:51.51. Clifford's time was just over a minute off the winning pace of 33:49.24 registered by Tara Rohatinskey of Brigham Young. Clifford entered the NCAA Championships ranked No. 10 in the nation in the 10,000-meter run after running a personal- and Michigan season-best 34:15.36 at the Mount San Antonio College Relays (April 14).
In addition to her efforts in the 10,000-meter run during the outdoor campaign, Clifford won the first Big Ten Conference championship of her career just 11 days ago, with a victory in the 3,000-meter run. Clifford also owned Michigan's top times this season in the 3,000-meter run (9:21.92) and 5,000-meter run (16:33.52), which were both NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
Michigan will close out its 2000 season Thursday (June 1) at Day 2 of the NCAA Championships as senior Brandi Bentley (Detroit, Mich./Marian HS) competes in the long jump. Bentley, who is ranked No. 5 in the nation in that event, will begin her last competition as a Wolverine at 7 p.m.
