Jazwinski Picks Up Big Ten Athlete of the Week Award

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Senior Katie (Clifford) Jazwinski (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic HS) of the University of Michigan has been selected as the Big Ten Conference Athlete of the Week for women's cross country for her first-place finish at the Miami Invitational on Sept. 9 in Oxford, Ohio.
Jazwinski finished 22 seconds ahead of the field with a time of 17:42, leading the Wolverines to a first-place team showing with a score of 28 points, comfortably ahead of runner-up Ball State (52). It was the fifth year in a row Michigan has won its first scored meet of the season.

Her victory marked the first time she won an invitational meet, with her previous best finish a third at the Michigan Intercollegiate (Oct. 8, 1999) with a time of 18:51.10. This is also Jazwinski's first honor as the Big Ten's Athlete of the Week.
Michigan, ranked 16th in the FinishLynx preseason poll, defends it title at the Spiked Shoe Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 16) in State College, Pa.
