Michigan Adds Football QB Gonzales to Hoops Roster

Gonzales averaged 15.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game as a prep senior in helping his squad to a 28-0 record and state championship. He was also named to the Prep Spotlight All-State Dream Team and earned second-team All-State honors.
Gonzales is not the first Wolverine to play both football and basketball in Ann Arbor. Former Wolverines who lettered in both sports include (years listed are for basketball letters): Harry Kipke (1922-24), Bennie Oosterbaan (1926-28), Fred Petoskey (1931-33), Tom Harmon (1939), Don Lund (1943-44), Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch (1944), Pete Elliott (1946-49), Irv Wisniewski (1947-50), Gene Topp (1952-53), Ron Kramer (1955-57), Scott Maentz (1961), C.J. Kupec (1972), David Hall (1982), Paul Jokisch (1983-84) and Tai Streets (1997).
Gonzales' first basketball game for the Wolverines will be Thursday (Jan. 25), when Michigan hosts No. 7-ranked Illinois at 7 p.m. in Crisler Arena.
