GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team finished in second place at the Florida Relays on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 20) at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Natatorium by accumulating 120 points. Florida, host of the event which consisted of eight relay races, won the competition with 152 points while Miami (Fla.) placed third with 70 points.
Three Michigan teams earned first-place finishes on Saturday while three other teams placed second. A trio of Wolverine swimmers -- sophomore Annie Weilbacher (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales HS), junior All-American Laura Kaznecki (Wolverine Lake, Mich./Wolverine Lake HS) and sophomore transfer Kelli Stein (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Waterson HS) -- competed on more than one winning team.
A day after winning the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes in a dual meet against Florida (Oct. 19), Stein competed on the victorious relay teams in the 200-yard medley relay team (1:45.31) and 200-yard breaststroke relay (2:02.91).
The only member of the Michigan team to compete on all three first-place teams was Weilbacher. Along with competing with Stein on the 200-yard breaststroke relay and the 200-yard medley relay team, Weilbacher also anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay team that posted a time of 1:35.29.
Kaznecki competed on the 200-yard medley relay team and the 200-yard freestyle relay teams. Other members of the U-M squad to swim on first-place teams were junior Erin Abbey (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield HS), freshman Tracy Egnatuk (Albion, Mich./Albion Senior HS), senior Andrea Kurrle (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro HS) and freshman Kathryn Peterson (Kent, Wash./Kentwood HS).
The Wolverines also posted second-place times in the 200-yard butterfly relay, the 200-yard backstroke relay and the 400-yard individual medley relay.
Michigan's next meet will be on Friday, Oct. 26, when it travels to Boston, Mass., to compete against Harvard at 5 p.m.
