Four Wolverines Named to STX/NFHCA All-Region Team

Foreman and Fronzoni were selected to the All-West Region first team for the second straight season and will be considered for the STX/NFHCA All-America Team, which will be announced on Monday, Nov. 19. Foreman, an All-Big Ten Conference first team selection, scored the decisive marker in last Sunday's (Nov. 11) 2-1 overtime win over Michigan State in the NCAA quarterfinals, while Fronzoni, who was named to the All-Big Ten second team, posted a hat trick in Michigan's upset of No. 4 North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last Saturday (Nov. 10).
Gannon, a first team All-West Region selection last season, joined Johnson on the All-West Region second team. Gannon ranks second on the team in scoring with 10 goals and five assists for 25 points, and she assisted on Foreman's game-winning goal against the Spartans. Johnson, who netted a penalty-stroke marker in the win, has notched 10 goals and three assists for 23 points to place her third on the squad.
Michigan (16-5 overall, 4-2 Big Ten) will conclude the season this weekend when it travels to Kent, Ohio, for the 2001 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship, hosted by Kent State University. The No. 7-ranked Wolverines will face No. 6 Princeton in the first national semifinal at 4:30 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 16), while top-ranked Maryland and No. 3 Wake Forest will square off at 7 p.m. in the second semifinal. The winners are scheduled to meet for the NCAA championship on Sunday (Nov. 18) at 2 p.m. All games will be held at Dix Stadium on the campus of Kent State.
