MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team dropped two dual meets over the weekend at the Minnesota Invitational as it fell to North Carolina, 220-148, and Minnesota, 201-169, on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 2-3) at the University Aquatic Center. The losses drop the Wolverines to 0-3 on the year and 0-1 against Big Ten teams.
On the opening day of competition, U-M received victories from freshman Amy McCullough (West Bloomfield, Mich./Mercy HS) and senior Lindsay Carlberg (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS). McCullough, who earned her first collegiate victories, won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:00.92 on Friday, while Carlberg posted her second win of the year by finishing the 100-yard backstroke in 56.70.
McCullough and Carlberg came back on Saturday afternoon with triumphant performances, marking the only two members of the team to win multiple events. Carlberg was the top performer in the 200-yard backstroke, with a time of 2:00.32, and McCullough outpaced the field in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:54.10.
Sophomore diver Tealin Kelemen (Riverton, N.J./Moorestown Friends School), one of Michigan's most consistent performers this season, won the three-meter competition on Friday with a score of 300.30 to go along with a third-place showing Saturday on the one-meter board (251.10).
The Wolverines' next meet will be on Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 29-Dec. 2, when they travel to Athens, Ga., to compete at the Georgia Invitational.
