In 238:15 minutes of action this year Lau has made 12 saves and allowed only four goals for a 1.51 goals-against average. He is the first Michigan goalkeeper to record two conference victories and the second netminder this season to tally a shutout in conference play. Joe Zawacki (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) blanked Northwestern in a 1-0 Wolverine win (Sept. 23).
Lau's selection as the Defensive Player of the Week is the second such award the Wolverines have earned this season. Zawacki earned co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 17-23 with a pair of shutout victories over Butler (1-0, Sept. 21) and Northwestern (1-0, Sept. 23).
No. 5-seeded Michigan (9-6-1, 3-3 Big Ten), will face No. 4 seed Wisconsin in the first round of the Big Ten Conference Championship Thursday (Nov. 8) at 11 a.m. CST at the McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison, Wis. If the Wolverines defeat the Badgers, they will then match up with No. 1 seed Indiana in a semifinal game on Friday (Nov. 9) at 2:30 p.m. CST. The conference championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST on Sunday (Nov. 11).
