Michigan Falls to Fighting Illini in Big Ten Dual Opener

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss against No. 26-ranked Illinois to begin the Big Ten Conference dual match season Saturday afternoon (Feb. 24) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines (3-3) lost the doubles point and could manage wins in just two singles matches against the Fighting Illini.
The Wolverines earned its first team point as freshman Kavitha Tipirneni (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby HS) tallied a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Eldina Fazlic at the No. 2 spot. Sophomore Joanne Musgrove (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich HS) picked up Michigan's final team point by outlasting Michelle Webb in a three-set match at No. 6 (6-4, 3-6, 6-3).
The Wolverines return to action tomorrow against No. 11-ranked Northwestern (Sunday, Feb. 25, 11 a.m.) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
