Two Wolverine Divers Compete at NCAA Zone Meet

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Two members of the Big Ten champion University of Michigan women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Indiana University to compete in the 2001 NCAA Zone C Diving Meet on Friday and Saturday (March 9-10) at Counsilman and Billingsley Aquatic Center. Sophomore Kelly Vander Kuyl (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) and freshman Tealin Kelemen (Riverton, N.J./Moorestown Friends School) represented U-M at the two-day event.
On Friday, both Wolverines competed in the three-meter springboard, with Kelemen finishing in 11th place (405.75) and Vander Kuyl 30th overall (199.45). On Saturday, Kelemen and Vander Kuyl finished 12th (231.30) and 27th (202.60), respectively, in the one-meter competition, and Vander Kuyl had a solid fourth-place performance (328.35) on the platform. Neither diver qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Michigan heads to Long Island, N.Y., next weekend for the 2001 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships (March 15-17).
