Regional Week
Before returning to Big Ten Conference dual match action, the University of Michigan women's tennis team will play a pair of midwest region opponents. The Wolverines host Western Michigan Thursday evening (March 14, 6 p.m.) and travel to Marquette for a Saturday afternoon match (March 17, 2 p.m. CST). Michigan defeated both schools last season.
Michigan vs. Western Michigan
This will be the 26th meeting between the two in-state schools, with Michigan holding a commanding 20-5 all-time advantage. The Wolverines beat the Broncos 5-2 last year at the Varsity Tennis Center (Jan. 28). Michigan has won 11 consecutive matches against Western Michigan, with its last loss coming during the 1988-89 season (5-4 match).
Michigan Against Marquette
The Wolverines and Golden Eagles will hit the hardcourt against each other for the seventh time. Michigan holds a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series, and claimed an 8-1 victory last year at the Varsity Tennis Center (April 2). The Wolverines have a 1-1 record in Milwaukee against the Golden Eagles, including an 8-1 victory in the first-ever match between the two schools, during the 1985-86 season. Marquette win its only match in the series during the 1998-99 season, a 7-2 match in Milwaukee.

Michigan Looks to End Losing String
After opening the season with three straight wins, the Wolverines have dropped six consecutive dual matches. Michigan has suffered defeats to three top 25 ranked teams and five of those six setbacks have been to teams listed in the top 35 nationally.
Musgrove Eyes 10th Singles Win
Sophomore Joanne Musgrove (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich HS) heads into the two-match week needing a pair of singles victories to reach double digits for the year. Musgrove has compiled an 8-3 overall singles record and has a team-best five dual match wins (5-3 record). She has an impressive 27-16 career singles record.
Women Ranked 58th
The women's tennis squad heads into this week's action ranked 58th for the second straight week in the WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (released March 7). The Wolverines (3-6) have been ranked in the high 50s the entire season, with their lowest ranking of 55th coming on Jan. 31.

Next Week
The women's tennis squad returns to Big Ten Conference dual match action with a pair of road matches. Michigan plays at Wisconsin Friday afternoon (March 23, 4 p.m. CST) and faces Minnesota Sunday morning (March 25, 11 a.m. CST). The Wolverines head into these matches with an 0-2 record in conference play.
