Michigan Blanked by Hurricanes in First Outdoor Match

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team suffered a 7-0 defeat against No. 22-ranked University of Miami today (Friday, March 2) at the Neil Schiff Tennis Complex. The No. 35-ranked Wolverines (5-4) were unable to score a team point in their first outdoor match of the season.
Miami won the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Michigan thrawted the sweep with an 8-6 victory by juniors Danny McCain (Largo, Fla./Canterbury School) and Greg Novak (Stoney Creek, Ontario/Cardinal Newman HS) over Michael Lang and Jose Lieberman at No. 2.
The Hurricanes swept all six singles matches in earning the shutout. The Wolverines' McCain and Novak did force three-set matches at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, before losing.
Michigan finishes its spring break trip to Florida tomorrow against Clemson (Saturday, March 3, 11:30 a.m.). The match will be played at the Neil Schiff Tennis Complex on the University of Miami campus.
