Blackburn Named MVP to Highlight 2000-01 Awards

Junior Jeff Jillson (North Smithfield, R.I.) ended up taking home the most hardware. Jillson won both the VIC HEYLIGER AWARD as best defenseman and the CARL ISAACSON AWARD as the top academic performer. Jillson was named to the first team All-CCHA team this past season and a first team All-Academic CCHA selection.
Sophomore Andy Hilbert (Howell, Mich.) was the recipient of the HAZEL M. "DOC" LOSH AWARD as the team's leading scorer. The Hobey Baker finalist placed third in scoring in the CCHA and overall finished the season with 26 goals and 38 assists for 64 points, good for sixth place nationally with a 1.56 points per game average.
Other award winners were Mike Komisarek (Islip Terrace, N.Y.), DEKER CLUB AWARD as most colorful freshman; senior Bill Trainor (Canton, Mich.), HOWARD COLBY AWARD for best sportsmanship; freshman Joe Kautz (Des Plaines, Ill.), ALTON D. SIMMS AWARD as most improved player; and senior Dave Huntzicker (Ann Arbor, Mich.), JOSEPH E. BARSS AWARD as the coaching staff's choice for best team player.
