A two-year captain of the women's gymnastics squad, Knaeble also excelled in the classroom. She was twice named a NACGC/W Scholastic All-American and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors three times during her career. She was named to the Dean's List in the fall and winter terms of 1999, which included a 4.0 during the winter term. Knaeble also was a four-time recipient of the U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award.
In its 26th year, the Honda Awards Program recognizes the top woman collegiate athlete in each of 12 sports. Ballots are distributed during the year to all NCAA athletic directors to make selections from nominees recommended by the national governing bodies for the 12 sports. In addition, the Honda Awards Program acknowledges the top women collegiate athletes representing Division II and Division III schools and the recipient of the Honda Inspiration Award.
An award ceremony will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 11 to honor all 15 athletes. That night, one woman will be presented with the prestigious Honda-Broderick Cup and recognized as the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year.
