Okenwa and Company Succeed at Hillsdale Relays

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field sent a partial squad to the Hillsdale Relays on Friday and Saturday (April 27-28) to compete at the Ken Harrick Track. Junior Ike Okenwa (San Diego, Calif./Morse HS) led the way for the Maize and Blue with one first-place finish in the 200-meter dash (21.63) and a third-place time in the 100 (10.68).
In addition to Okenwa's performances, the Wolverines produced four other top-10 finishes over the two-day event. Senior Charles DeWildt (Wyoming, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central HS) turned in a runner-up finish in the pole vault, reaching a height of 17-0 3/4. The field also had freshman Terrence Walcott (St. Albans, N.Y./Science Skills Center) reach a distance of 44-3 1/2 for a sixth-place in the triple jump on Saturday.
Michigan's other top-10 results came on the track. Freshman Dave Sage (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston HS) came in sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The freshmen continued to do well as Anthony Beal (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS) posted another sixth-place finish for the Wolverines, in the 400.
Michigan will be back in action next weekend with a pair of meets, starting with the Toledo Invitational (May 5) in Toledo, Ohio, followed by the OSU Jesse Owens Classic (May 6) in Columbus, Ohio.
