Okenwa Doubles Up with Pair of Paddock Invite Wins

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team hosted its final meet of the 2001 regular season with the last day of the Len Paddock Invitational today (Saturday, May 12) on Ferry Field. Junior Ike Okenwa (San Diego, Calif./Morse HS) won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes for the second week in a row. Okenwa was victorious in the 100 with a time of 10.49, and clocked in at 21.08 in the 200.
In the final sprint of the day, senior co-captain Josh Sellers (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee HS) ran a 48.63 to claim fourth place in the 400-meter dash.
In the 800-meter run, the Wolverines took fourth and fifth overall. Junior Kevin Rogan (Grass Lake, Mich./Grass Lake HS) barely edged out freshman teammate Brian Turner (Omaha, Neb./Millard North HS) for fourth, as Rogan (1:52.37) came in 0.25 seconds ahead of Turner (1:52.62).
In the field, Michigan won two events on the afternoon. Senior Oded Padan (Tel Aviv, Israel/Alliance HS) was victorious in the triple jump, leaping to a mark of 48-6 1/4. Senior Charles DeWildt (Wyoming, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central HS) was the other Wolverine to defend his home turf, winning the pole vault with a mark of 17-0. Junior Bob Arnold (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty HS) took fourth in the high jump for the Maize and Blue, clearing a height of 6-8.
Michigan will be in action next weekend (May 18-20) for the Big Ten Outdoor Championships hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
