Rogers Closes Out Career with Personal Best in Discus

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Senior Nick Rogers (Birmingham, Mich./Seaholm HS) ended his University of Michigan men's track and field career by taking fourth place in the discus today (Saturday, May 19) at the Big Ten Conference Outdoor Championships at the University of Indiana.
Rogers' toss of 172-4 was a personal best and marked his best finish ever at the Big Ten Championships. With Rogers' five points, Michigan ended the day tied in eighth place with Iowa with 15 points. Wisconsin leads the team competition after two days with 59 points.
Junior Ike Okenwa (San Diego, Calif./Morse HS) finished runner-up in his heats of the 100- and 200-meter dashes and posted the third fastest time overall for both events to advance to the finals on Sunday.
Two Wolverines advanced to the finals in the middle distance events as well Sophomore Phil Stead (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child HS) ran a 1:51.24 in the 800-meter run, which was just fast enough to advance to the finals on Sunday. Freshman Brian Turner (Omaha, Neb./Millard North HS) took sixth in his heat of the 1,500 and will compete tomorrow in the finals.
Michigan will be in action tomorrow (Sunday, May 20) for the final day of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, beginning at 12:30 p.m. EST/CDT.
