Navarre Named U-M Starting Quarterback vs. Miami

Navarre started the first four games of the 2000 season and played in five contests at quarterback during his redshirt freshman year. He completed 40-of-77 passes (.591) for 583 yards and eight touchdowns a year ago and ranked third in the Big Ten Conference in pass efficiency with a 147.24 rating. The opening-day starter against Bowling Green, Navarre was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after completing 15-of-19 passes for 265 yards and a school-record-tying four touchdown passes.
Battling for playing time behind Navarre in the opener are: junior/sophomores Spencer Brinton (Hemet, Calif./Temecula Valley HS - San Diego St.) and Andy Mignery (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton HS) and redshirt freshman Jermaine Gonzales (Pontiac, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's HS).
