Brannen, Willis Pace U-M at Michigan Intercollegiate

MILFORD, Mich. -- Running the Michigan Intercollegiate's 4,000-meter race at Kensington Metropark, the University of Michigan men's cross country team placed second out of 12 teams this afternoon (Friday, Oct. 11). Sophomore Nate Brannen (Cambridge, Ontario/Preston HS) placed third and freshman Nick Willis (Lower Hutt, New Zealand/Hutt Valley HS) was sixth as the 19th-ranked Maize and Blue placed a total of five runners in the top 10 for a total of 26 points, trailing only No. 6 Eastern Michigan (12 points) for the title.
Brannen was the third runner to cross the finish line at 12:17.1, leading the Wolverines across the finish line for the third time in the Wolverines' three scoring meets this season. EMU harrier Boaz Cheboiywo, the defending national champion, was first with a time of 11:48.1.
Willis placed sixth, finishing with a time of 12:31.2, and the Wolverines took eighth through 10th place as senior/junior Brian Turner (Omaha, Neb./Millard North HS) earned his first top 10 finish of the season in eighth place (12:35.7). Senior/junior Ryan Hesselink (Freeport, Mich./Thornapple-Kellogg HS) finished in ninth at 12:39.1 and sophomore Sean Moore (Saline, Mich./Saline HS) was close behind at 12:40.
The Wolverines return to action next Saturday (Oct. 19) for the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. The race is scheduled to begin at 11:35 a.m. EST/CDT.
