ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football team received good news Sunday night (Oct. 13) upon learning that junior/sophomore defensive back Zia Combs (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) had been released from University of Michigan Hospital.

It was just minutes into Saturday's Penn State-Michigan Big Ten football game when Michigan players Ernest Shazor (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King HS) and Combs collided attempting to pin Penn State at its one-yard line after Michigan was forced to punt on its first possession. Neither player could stop the ball before it crossed the goal line, and Combs was forced to leave the game after taking the brunt of Shazor's momentum in the impact. Comb was unconscious and medical personnel from both teams rushed to his aid. The 111,502 fans at Michigan Stadium sat in stunned silence.
Combs was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital immediately and was held overnight for observation.
Upon release from the hospital Sunday evening, Combs went straight to Schembechler Hall to see his teammates as the Wolverine football team was conducting its Sunday evening workout.
