Four Wolverines Receive All-Big Ten First-Team Honors

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- The Big Ten Conference announced its football all-conference and individual honors today (Tuesday, Nov. 26), with the University of Michigan collecting four All-Big Ten first-team accolades, four Wolverines receiving second-team honors and six other players listed as honorable mention.

Fifth-year senior tight end and co-captain Bennie Joppru (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka HS) and junior/sophomore punter Adam Finley (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) were selected to the second team on both the coaches and media ballots. Sophomore wide receiver Braylon Edwards (Detroit, Mich./Bishop Gallagher HS) received second team selection by the coaches while gaining honorable mention accolades from the media. Fifth-year senior Dan Rumishek (Addison, Ill./Addison Trail HS) earned a second team nod from the media and collected honorable mention by the coaches.
In addition to Pape, Edwards and Rumishek, six other Wolverines were honorable mention selection. Senior/junior defensive tackle Grant Bowman (Blacklick, Ohio/St. Francis De Sales HS), fifth-year senior free safety Cato June (Washington, D.C./Anacostia HS) and senior/junior defensive end Shantee Orr (Detroit, Mich./Denby HS) represented the defense with their honorable mention recognition on both ballots. Senior fullback B.J. Askew (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain HS) and junior tailback Chris Perry (Advance, N.C./Fork Union Military, Va.) were named honorable mention by the coaches, while senior/junior quarterback John Navarre (Cudahy, Wis./Cudahy HS) collected recognition from the media.
All-Big Ten Notes
The Wolverines have had 251 player named to the All-Big Ten first team at total of 356 times, the most of any conference school. All four players this year earned first-team honors for the first time.
Jackson and Baas received their first all-conference accolades of any kind.
Hobson has moved up in the all-conference balloting each of the past three seasons: honorable mention in 2000, second team in 2001 and first team this season.
Pape gained first-team honors after collecting honorable mention last year.
Michigan has had at least one offensive lineman earn first-team accolades each of Lloyd Carr's eight seasons.
