Blanchard Named to NABC All-District Second Team

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- University of Michigan men's basketball player LaVell Blanchard (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/Pontiac Division I All-District 11 second team. Minnesota's Rick Rickert, Wisconsin's Kirk Penney, Illinois' Brian Cook and Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Clay Tucker join Blanchard on the second team. The NABC honors a total of 150 individuals, selecting five-player first and second teams for each of 15 districts.
Blanchard, a junior forward, leads Michigan in scoring and rebounding for the third consecutive season, averaging 14.7 points and 6.7 rebounds a game. He is shooting 42.4 percent from the field, 32.6 percent on three-pointers and 81.8 percent on free throws, while averaging 29.0 minutes per game. Blanchard has scored in double figures in 22 of 23 games, including 17 straight games.

He recorded his 1,200th career point and 600th career rebound and earned his 21st career double-double against Penn State on Feb. 9. He has three double-doubles this season. Additionally, he set and tied a career high in rebounds (14) against Oakland (Nov. 16) and at Penn State (Jan. 2).
Blanchard is now eligible for selection to the NABC/Pontiac Division I All-America Team, which will be announced at the conclusion of the season.
