WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team sent two members to the NCAA Zone C Diving Meet on Friday and Saturday (March 15-16) at Purdue University's Boilermaker Aquatic Center. Junior Kelly Vander Kuyl (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) competed in all three events and sophomore Tealin Kelemen (Riverton, N.J./Moorestown Friends School) dove in the one- and three-meter events, but neither was able to earn one of the zone's seven spots in the NCAA Championships.
Vander Kuyl posted the highest finish of the weekend with a seventh-place showing and score of 335.25 in Saturday's 12-person platform competition. On Friday, Kelemen finished 23rd overall (227.55) and Vander Kuyl placed 28th (210.45) among 43 competitors on the one-meter springboard. In Saturday's three-meter event, Vander Kuyl finished in 28th place (217.55) and Kelemen was 30th (211.45) out of 42 competitors.
While neither diver qualified for the NCAA Championships, four Wolverine swimmers will represent U-M at next week's NCAA meet, which will be held March 21-23 at the University of Texas in Austin.
