TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team was unable to upend the No. 32-ranked Indiana State Sycamores, losing 7-0 Saturday afternoon (March 23) at the Wabash Valley Tennis Club. The Wolverines, ranked No. 40 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings, lost a close doubles point and were swept in all six singles matches by the Sycamores.
The lone bright spot on the afternoon for Michigan (8-5) came in doubles action as senior Henry Beam (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix HS) and freshman Matt Lockin (Lilburn, Ga./S.D. Independent Study) won a 9-7 match against Henry Choi and Dalibor Mihajlovic at No. 2. Beam and Lockin have compiled a team-best 12-1 doubles record on the season. Beam was the only Wolverine to stretch his match into a third set, losing 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to Stefan Hirn at the top singles slot.
The Wolverines look to rebound from today's loss when they complete the road trip against Ball State tomorrow (Sunday, March 24) in Muncie, Ind. The match will be played at the YMCA Indoor Tennis Center beginning at 1 p.m.
