Wisniewski, Stanko Compete at Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team sent two of its members to participate in the Stanford Invitational on Friday (March 29) at Cobb Track and Angell Field on the campus of Stanford University. Senior Mike Wisniewski (Temperance, Mich./Bedford HS) and junior Nick Stanko (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt HS) took to the track with some of the top collegiate and high school athletes in the nation.
Wisniewski cemented his place among the nation's top distance runners with a 10th-place result in the Top Section of the 10,000-meter run, finishing in an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 28:55.89. In a close race, Wisniewski was one of three runners who crossed the finish line within one second of each other.
In Section Two of the 10,000-meter run, Stanko turned in a 25th-place finish with a personal-best time of 30:18.75. Stanko's previous outdoor best of 30:26.54 was set on April 24, 2001, at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
Both runners will rejoin the rest of the Wolverines next weekend (April 5-6) at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.
