Michigan Sends Group of Competitors to Hillsdale Relays

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- With three top-five results, the University of Michigan men's track and field team had a successful couple of days Friday and Saturday (April 26-27) at the Hillsdale College "Gina" Relays. Wolverine senior Kevin Rogan (Grass Lake, Mich./Grass Lake HS) earned the team's highest finish, placing third in the 800-meter run, while pole vaulter senior Brent Sheffer (Traverse City, Mich./Central HS) and junior sprinter Brent Cummings (Belding, Mich./Belding HS) turned in fourth-place finishes.
In the 800-meter run, Rogan's result of 1:55.00 came in a close race where the top seven finishers turned in times within three seconds of one another. Sheffer took fourth place in the pole vault as he cleared five meters. In another closely contested event, Cummings crossed the finish line in the 100-meter dash just .02 out of third place.
Michigan middle-distance runner Terrance Rindler (Portage, Mich./Central HS) set a personal best in the 1,500-meter with a time of 3:55.91, surmounting his previous mark by almost two seconds.
Michigan's next meet will be Sunday, May 5, at the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio. The Wolverines were originally slated to compete at the Toledo Invitational on May 3-4, but the meet will not be held in order to make repairs on the track.
