In addition to the individual accomplishments, U-M ranked 16th on the list of the top 25 all-academic wrestling teams with a combined grade point average of 2.967.
With a 3.907 GPA, redshirt freshman Bertin led the field with the highest GPA among all wrestlers recognized by the NWCA. While still undeclared in major, Bertin plans to apply for the U-M Business School in the near future.
A repeat NWCA All-Academic selection, sixth-year senior Olson holds a 3.7 GPA in the Rackham School of Graduate Studies while he pursues his master's in educational technology. Olson graduated from the Division of Kinesiology in the spring of 2001 with a degree in physical education.
Joining Bertin and Olson among those honored by the NWCA was junior Kyle Smith (Butte, Mont./Butte HS), who was named to the All-Academic Honorable Mention Team for earning a 3.276 GPA in organizational studies.
While the NWCA All-Academic Team featured wrestlers from 32 different schools, Michigan and Eastern Michigan were the only teams to have three wrestlers earn such academic recognition.
