"We are thrilled to have Amy join the program," said Michigan women's golf coach Kathy Teichert. "In addition to her already strong academic qualifications, Amy has really taken her game to the next level over the past three years and will be a valuable addition to this program both on and off the course."
Schmucker, a four-time Minnesota All-State first team member, won back-to-back Minnesota Class AA state championships in 2001 (77-76/153) and 2002 (76-74/150). She was also a three-time Section 8AA medalist (1999, 2001, 2002) and Central Lakes Conference medalist (2000, 2001, 2002). Schmucker, who served as team captain her senior season, earned six All-Central Lake Conference awards.
She won her first national tournament with medalist honors at the 2001 American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) COMPAQ Junior Classic at the Pines in Nisswa, Minn. She also placed eighth in the 2000 Minnesota Women's State Amateur Golf Championship and ninth in 2001.
Schmucker, who signed early with the University of Minnesota but was released from her National Letter of Intent, joins early signee Brandi Zielinski as Michigan's incoming freshmen. U-M's other early signee, Lauren Gebauer, has elected not to attend the University of Michigan.
