Freshman Adam Bruh (Roselyn Heights, N.Y./Wheatley HS) continued his helping hand as he dished out three more assists in the win, setting a new school records for assists in a season and in a career with eight in only five games.
Sophomore Mychal Turpin (Pontiac, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit) opened the scoring at 6:26 when he sent junior captain Mike White's (Livonia Mich./Stevenson HS) pass to the back of the net from eight yards out to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead. It was Turpin's seventh goal of the season, moving him two goals ahead of Knox Cameron (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman HS) for the season lead.
Nearly nine minutes later Schmieder tallied his first of the night. At 15:06 Bruh sent a floater into the box, Schmieder read the play and he headed the ball to the far post, extending the Michigan lead to 2-0.
Following an Aces goal at 18:54, Michigan scored its third of the first half when Cameron knocked home his sixth of the season. With Bruh in possession of the ball, Cameron found an opening in the Evansville defense and called for the ball. Cameron received the ball, headed toward the goal and fired a shot from four yards out to put U-M up 3-1 at 38:42.
Michigan made it a three-goal game at 57:46 when Schmieder headed in his second of the night. Junior defender Kevin Taylor (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) notched his first point of the season as he sent a pass to Bruh, who found Schmieder in the air for the second time in the match.
Evansville pulled within two goals at 62:45, but Schmieder put the Wolverines up three with his third when he put one in from 10 yards out at 65:19. Instead of using his head, Schmieder took a Trai Blanks (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) pass and sent a rocket to the left of the UE goalkeeper to complete his hat trick.
White ended the scoring at 73:49 when he knocked in a cross from four yards out to give the Wolverines a 6-2 victory.
Joe Zawacki (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) stopped five shots en route to his 10th career win and Peter Dzubay (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview HS) added one save between the pipes for the Maize and Blue.
The Wolverines look to make it a perfect 2-0 weekend road trip when they face Dayton Sunday (Sept. 29) at 1 p.m. on Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio. It will be the third meeting between the two schools. Both Michigan and Dayton have a victory in the series as each school has held ground on its home turf.

Q U O T E S
U-M Head Coach Steve Burns
On Jrgen Schmieder ... "I told him in pregame that he was going to get his first start. We challenged him to put a complete game together out there today. We needed him to play defense as well as score. Defensively he did a good job and he did a great job offensively. I think he has played about 110 minutes so far this year and has taken something like eight shots. Out of that he has produced six goals and I think our guys are still trying to figure him out. He plays a different style, a German style. It's great to think what could happen if the pieces come together."
On the team ... "We are a team that believes in the system and as long as we keep believing good things are going to happen. We have to continue to focus one game at a time and I think if we do that, we can put together good performances day in and day out."
N O T E S
Jrgen Schmieder earned his first career start and responded by scoring his second career hat trick. In four games this season, Schmieder has six goals on seven shots on goal. He has eight shots total in 2002.
With six goals in 2002, Schmieder is one goal shy of the program's single-season record held by Mychal Turpin, who notched his seventh today against Evansville.
Turpin increased his single-season goal-scoring record to seven in the win. With the goal against Evansville, he has scored in five of Michigan's seven games this season.
With a single tally against Evansville, Knox Cameron has 11 career goals. His 11 goals stand as the most in the program's three-year existence.
Adam Bruh became the program's all-time assist leader with three helpers in the win. Bruh has eight assists in five games this season, one more than previous leader J.J. Kern's (2000-01) total of seven.
Bruh's eight assists in 2002 set the single-season assist mark as he surpassed Kern's total of six in 2001.
