ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The No. 12 University of Michigan men's cross country team claimed five of the top six spots in its dominant first-place showing at the 8,000-meter Michigan Intercollegiate on Friday (Oct. 10). Michigan's top five runners, whose places are counted in the team scoring, all finished within a 19-second frame. Sophomore/freshman Andrew Ellerton (Winsor, Ontario/Confederation HS) paced the Maize and Blue, posting a career-high second-place finish (25:06).
Fifth-year senior Ryan Hesselink (Freeport, Mich./Thornapple-Kellogg HS) was the second Wolverine to cross the line, finishing third at 25:17. Sophomore/freshman Andrew Bauer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser HS) and junior/sophomore Rondell Ruff (Detroit, Mich./Henry Ford HS) crossed the line only a second later, both clocking career-best times of 25:18, and junior/sophomore Sean Moore (Saline, Mich./Saline HS) rounded out U-M's top five, earning sixth place with a time of 25:25.
The Wolverines will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18, for the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The 8,000-meter race will be run at Irv Warren Golf Course, the same venue that will host the NCAA Championships in November.
