PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Sophomore Peter Vanderkaay (Rochester, Mich./Adams HS) of the No. 8-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team was named Big Ten Conference co-Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday (Nov. 12). His selection follows three individual event wins and a pair of relay victories last weekend, and it marks the third career Big Ten weekly accolade for Vanderkaay and the first for a Wolverine this season.

Holding onto his momentum from the previous day, Vanderkaay was the first Wolverine to earn an event title when he posted an NCAA consideration time of 15:06.54 in the 1,500-meter freestyle in the Wolverines' dual meet at No. 10 Georgia on Saturday (Nov. 8). The sophomore's time bettered the NCAA B standard of 15:30.25 by nearly 24 seconds and was just 3.37 seconds shy of the NCAA automatic qualifying standard of 15:03.17. In the final event of the meet, Vanderkaay helped U-M finish first in the 400-meter freestyle relay with a time of 3:21.34.
U-M returns home this weekend to face No. 2 Texas at Canham Natatorium for a two-day scored dual meet. Michigan and Texas will face off in a long-course meters meet Friday (Nov. 14) at 6 p.m., then return to the pool Saturday (Nov. 15) for a short-course yards competition at 1 p.m.
