Junior Jason Ryznar scored his first goal of the season with a marker at 19:21 of the second period. Through six games played this season Ryznar has two points on one goal and an assist.
Ryznar's last-minute goal in the second period was the second last-minute marker by a Wolverine this season. Eric Werner had the first with a game-tying tally at 19:04 of the third period at Ferris State (Nov. 8). Michigan has allowed three last-minute goals thus far.
Ryznar now has three points (1-2-3) in five College Hockey Showcase appearances and is tied for most career points in the CHS among current Wolverines. Juniors Dwight Helminen (2-1-3) and Eric Werner (1-2-3) also have three points in the five games. The all-time College Hockey Showcase scoring leaders are Jason Botterill (1993-97) and Brendan Morrison (1993-97), who each tallied 15 points in Showcase play.
Michigan's power play, which was 0-for-4 against Wisconsin, has been held scoreless in the last three games. Prior to that stretch the Wolverines had netted at least one power-play tally in each of their first 10 games.
Michigan surrendered its 10th power-play tally of the season. Opponents have converted 10-of-59 (.169) power-play opportunities this season. The Wolverines are 3-3 when allowing a power-play marker.
The Maize and Blue was outshot for the fourth time this season. Michigan is 1-3 when allowing more shots than it takes.
The Wolverines are now 2-1 when wearing blue jerseys.
The last time U-M lost consecutive games was Dec. 6-7, 2002, at Northern Michigan.
Michigan now holds a 14-6-1 overall record in the College Hockey Showcase.
Wisconsin earned only its third-ever victory in College Hockey Showcase play and stands 3-17-1. Two of those wins have come at the expense of the Wolverines. Wisconsin earned a 5-3 win against U-M on Nov. 27, 1993, the first year the Showcase was held. Michigan now has a 8-2-1 all-time Showcase record against UW.
Wisconsin extended its nation-longest undefeated streak to nine game (6-0-3) with the win.
Tonight's attendance was 6,776.
