2003-04 IHM vs. Minnesota -- Postgame Notes
11/29/2003 12:00:00 AM | Ice Hockey
For the first time in the event's 11-year history, Michigan lost both games of the College Hockey Showcase. The Wolverines lost 3-1 to Wisconsin on the first night of competition (Nov. 28) and then dropped a 4-2 decision to Minnesota tonight (Nov. 29).
The last time the Wolverines lost three straight games came during 1999-2000 season when Michigan lost a two-game weekend set to Lake Superior (Nov. 19-20, 1999) and then fell to Minnesota (Nov. 26, 1999) in the first game of that year's College Hockey Showcase.

Michigan has been held scoreless on the power play for the last four games. The Wolverines have been unable to convert in 16 man-advantage situations, going 0-for-4 in each game.
Michigan scored its first shorthanded goal of the season on Brandon Kaleniecki's tally in the first period. Kaleniecki now has eight points this season on six goals and two assists.
The Maize and Blue has allowed four shorthanded goals this season, including tonight's tally from Minnesota forward Troy Riddle. U-M is now 1-3 when yielding a shorthanded marker.
Michigan is 0-for-2 this season on five-minute power-play opportunities. The Wolverines also had a power play after a major penalty in their 5-2 loss to Ohio State (Nov. 15).
Dating back to Friday night (Nov. 28) against Wisconsin, Michigan has scored three consecutive unassisted goals. Jason Ryznar (Anchorage, Alaska) scored U-M's lone goal against the Badgers, while Kaleniecki and Brandon Rogers scored in the first period against Minnesota.
Brandon Rogers' goal in the first period stands as his first point at even strength this season. Rogers has compiled a 2-8-10 line in 14 games this season to lead all U-M blueliners and is tied for the team point lead on the power play with 1-8-9 totals.
Both Wisconsin and Minnesota sealed their victories over Michigan in the College Hockey Chowcase with empty-net goals in the final minute. The pair were the first empty-netters allowed by the Wolverines this season.
Michigan is now 14-7-1 all-time in the College Hockey Showcase. Michigan State, which was also swept in the Showcase this season after a 2-1 overtime loss to Wisconsin tonight (Nov. 29) in East Lansing, Mich., has the second-best record at 12-8-2. With a pair of wins each, Minnesota improved to 11-9-2 in the Showcase, while Wisconsin doubled its win total to stand at 4-17-1.
