Moore Named All-Big Ten; Bowman on Freshman Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- A pair of University of Michigan volleyball players -- senior Erin Moore (Tiffin, Ohio/Columbian HS) and freshman Megan Bowman (St. John, Ind./Lake Central HS) -- were honored by the Big Ten Conference on Monday (Dec. 1) as the league announced its 2003 honors. Moore was one of four unanimous selections to the 12-member All-Big Ten team, while Bowman was one of six student-athletes named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team.

Moore, regarded as one of the most complete players in the conference, ranked among the top six statistically in three different categories (hitting percentage, kills and blocks) in league play, the only player in the league to accomplish that feat. An All-Big Ten selection in 2002, Moore is the first player in U-M history to receive All-Big Ten first team accolades twice.

Bowman, who ranked second overall and among freshmen in blocking during the conference season, is the second Wolverine in the program's history to be named to the All-Freshman team. Junior Jennifer Gandolph (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) is the other, receiving the honor in 2001.

Michigan (20-11, 12-8 Big Ten) placed fifth in the Big Ten, its highest finish since the 1997 campaign. The Wolverines have been selected as an at-large team to the 2003 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship and will travel to Berkeley, Calif., to face Colorado at 5 p.m. PST on Friday (Dec. 5) in the first round of the tournament. The winner will face the winner of the matchup between No. 8 California and St. Mary's (Calif.) on Saturday (Dec. 6) at 7:30 p.m. PST. All matches will take place at Haas Pavilion on the campus of the University of California.
