Tomorrow's third-place game in the Great Lakes Invitational will be Michigan's 100th contest played at Joe Louis Arena. The Wolverines are 64-33-2 all-time at the Joe.
The Wolverines have been held out of the GLI final in three of the last four tournaments, with a finals appearance in 2002.
U-M has lost both games in the Great Lakes Invitational only five times in the 38-year history of the event. The last time the Wolverines were swept was in the 2000 GLI.
Michigan was held to just one goal in a Great Lakes Invitational contest for the first time since 1999, when it suffered a 3-1 GLI final loss to Michigan State. Michigan has only been shut out once in GLI play, losing a 6-0 decision to Wisconsin in the semifinal of the 1989 GLI.
Michigan was outshot for sixth time in 19 games. U-M is 1-4-1 when being outshot. Boston College has outshot its opponent in all 17 of its contests.
Michigan allowed its fifth shorthanded goal of the year. The Eagles scored their sixth shorthanded tally of the season.
Michigan was held scoreless in the first period for the fourth time in five games.
Michigan was held scoreless in the second period for the fifth time in six games.
Noah Ruden made his first career start in his sixth career appearance. The sophomore earned his first career decision after making three relief appearances in 2002-03 and two in 2003-04.
Ruden established career highs in saves (34), minutes played (60) and goals allowed (four).
Joe Kautz's goal was his first of the season. Kautz has played in four games this season and has posted a 1-1-2 line.
Kautz's two points account for all the scoring this season from Michigan's three-member senior class.
Freshman defenseman Matt Hunwick, sophomore goaltender Al Montoya and sophomore forward Jeff Tambellini were out of the lineup for Michigan while participating in the 2004 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships in Finland. Montoya and Hunwick are skating for Team USA while Tambellini is playing with Team Canada.
