The last time Michigan was shut out came Feb. 28, 2003, at the hands of the Spartans in Ann Arbor, Mich. U-M lost the game by a final score of 4-0.
Michigan and MSU combined for four total goals in the home-and-home series, tying the fewest goals scored in consecutive games between the two programs. The Maize and Blue won a 3-1 decision on Jan. 9, 1954, before the teams battled to a 0-0 draw in the next meeting (Feb. 19, 1954).
With a 29-17 shot advantage against Michigan State, Michigan fell to 9-2 when outshooting its opponent this season.
Michigan is winless at Munn Ice Arena in its last three games and is just 1-6-1 at Munn in its last eight games. U-M is 4-18-3 in East Lansing over the last two decades. The Wolverines' last win in East Lansing came Jan. 7, 2000.
The Maize and Blue has only been shut out seven times in the 242-game series against Michigan State, including a 0-0 tie on Feb. 19, 1954.
Michigan's power play has been shut down in the last six consecutive games, going scoreless in its last 23 chances. Prior to the six-game skid, the Wolverines were 19-for-73 (.260). Overall this season, U-M is 19-of-96 (.197).
A total of nine Wolverines have scoreless streaks of five games or more.
Senior defenseman Andy Burnes' (Battle Creek, Mich.) three-game positive plus-minus streak was snapped against the Spartans. The three-game run was the longest plus streak of the season. Burnes rated plus-three during the stretch.
Al Montoya set a season low for saves in a game with 15 stops tonight against Michigan State. MSU managed only 17 shots in the game, which stands as the fewest allowed by the Wolverines in 2003-04.
