Walter, McGregor to Run for U.S. at World Championships

HOUSTON, Texas -- University of Michigan freshman Rebecca Walter (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves HS) and former Wolverine Katie McGregor (1995-98) each ran to fourth-place finishes at the USA Cross Country Championships last Saturday (Feb. 15) on Houston's Buffalo Bayou Park. The duo earned roster spots to represent the United States at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships March 29-30 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The 1998 NCAA cross country champion, McGregor earned her spot on the U.S. National Team with a fourth-place showing in the 8,078-meter Senior Women's race with a time of 30.27.5. Running for adidas, McGregor finished 1:21.3 behind race winner Deena Drossin, who clocked in with a time of 29:06.2.
During the 2002 cross country season, Walter helped the Wolverines to their fourth Big Ten team title, finishing fifth in the 5,000-meter conference meet (Nov. 3) with a time of 17:47.8 in West Lafayette, Ind. Two weeks later (Nov. 22) Walter guided Michigan to a 15th-place showing at the NCAA Championships with a team-best 51st-place finish in 20:49.3.
