Wolverines Fall to William & Mary in Neutral-Site Matchup

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team dropped its second straight match Saturday afternoon (Feb. 8), falling to William & Mary 5-2 at Wake Forest's Indoor Tennis Center. The Wolverines (3-3) surrendered a tightly-contested doubles point before losing four of six in singles to the Tribe.
In the doubles competition, junior Anthony Jackson (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet HS) and sophomore Josef Fischer (Nuremberg, Germany/Brandenton Academy, Fla.) teamed up at No. 3 for an 8-4 victory over Zack Malmgren and Jeffrey Kader. The Tribe captured the doubles point though, claiming victories at No. 1 and No. 2.
William & Mary followed with four wins in singles play, as U-M could only manage victories at the top two spots. Sophomore Michael Rubin (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS) improved his dual match record to 5-1, defeating Sean Kelleher 7-5, 7-6 at No. 1. Jackson came back in his match at No. 2 to defeat Geoffrey Russell 0-6, 6-4, 7-6.
The Wolverines return to the Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday (Feb. 9) to face No. 22-ranked Wake Forest at 1 p.m.
