ATLANTA, Ga. -- Former University of Michigan women's soccer All-American Abby Crumpton (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS) was named to the Atlanta Beat's final 18-person roster Monday (March 24). Crumpton, who was a second-round pick for the Beat and the 13th overall selection in the Women's United Soccer Association draft in January, participated a pair of training camps before being named to Atlanta's regular-season roster by head coach Tom Stone.

In 2002, Crumpton became the first Michigan player to be named Big Ten Conference Player of the Year, helping Michigan to its best final ranking (11th) and its first trip to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals in the program's nine-year history. Crumpton was just the third U-M player to be named National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America with her second-team selection this past December. She is also the program's all-time leading scorer with 115 career points.
The Atlanta Beat will open their 2003 season April 5 at home against the New York Power. Last season, the Beat were the fourth-seeded team in the WUSA playoffs after compiling an 11-9-1 regular-season record. Atlanta was eliminated in the Founders' Cup semifinals by the eventual league champion Carolina Courage, falling 2-1 score in overtime.
