U-M Football Locker Room Expanding at Michigan Stadium

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football team will have more space to prepare each home Saturday beginning in 2003. Construction has already begun and will continue through the summer on a new locker room for the Wolverines at Michigan Stadium.

The previous stadium locker room has not had any structural changes made since the 1950s. Originally built to accommodate 80 players, the facility has been outgrown due to the size of a modern football team. Many players over the past few years were required to dress in the visitors and wrestlers locker rooms inside Crisler Arena due to the limited lockers.

Football Team Area: 125 lockers, 19 wall showers and eight column showers and bathroom facilities. The approximately 4,000-square-foot team area will be able to house all members of the squad and provide areas for pregame, halftime and postgame meetings as a full team or by unit.
Coaching Staff Room: 18 lockers with private shower and bathroom facilities.
Training Room: 1,626-square-foot area features an examining room, clean room for x-rays and minor medical procedures, office for doctors and an approximately 1,000-square-foot training facility with taping tables. A changing area with four lockers and a bathroom will be adjacent to the training room.
Equipment Room: 1,010-square-foot room will have an office for equipment distribution as well as a storage facility. All of the Wolverines' equipment that previously was stored in closets in a tunnel connecting the old locker room and Crisler Arena will now find a home inside this area.
The Wolverine locker room expansion also will include separate electrical and mechanical rooms as well as custodial closets.
