ATLANTA, Ga. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team won a pair of events at the Yellow Jacket Invitational this afternoon (Saturday, April 5) at Georgia Tech's George C. Griffin Track. The Wolverines also boasted a total of five top-five finishers on the day.

Senior/juniors Nick Stanko (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt HS), who was victorious in the 5,000-meter run, and Ryan Hesselink (Freeport, Mich./Thornapple-Kellogg HS), who won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, were U-M's event winners. Freshman Andrew Ellerton (Windsor, Ontario/Confederation HS) also had a strong meet with second- and third-place finishes in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs, respectively.

Stanko posted a time of 14:32.73 in the 5,000 to win the event by over 11 seconds. Hesselink, however, had a much closer race, holding off teammate Alex L'Heureux (Weedon, Quebec/Palm Beach Gardens HS) in the steeplechase by just over a second with a result of 9:09.41.

Ellerton posted Michigan's best time of the outdoor season in the 800-meter run with his runner-up finish and NCAA Regional qualifying time of 1:49.73. The U-M freshman was also successful in the 1,500-meter run, posting his second NCAA Regional time of the meet with a finish of 3:47.29, just two seconds off the leader.

Freshman Adam Kring (Port Huron, Mich./Northern HS) was the Maize and Blue's top finisher in the field, taking fourth place overall in the high jump. Kring surpassed 6-6 with his final jump of the day.

The Wolverines will compete in the Sea Ray Relays next Thursday through Saturday (April 10-12) at Tennessee's Tom Black Track in Knoxville, Tenn.
