Bertin a Repeat Selection on NWCA All-Academic Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan junior/sophomore Ryan Bertin (Broadview Heights, Ohio/St. Edward HS), the 157-pound NCAA wrestling champion in 2003, added to his lengthy list of season honors Wednesday (May 14) by being named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic first team.

Also receiving recognition from the NWCA were senior/junior Pat Owen (Polson, Mont./Polson HS) and fifth-year senior Kyle Smith (Butte, Mont./Butte HS), both named to the All-Academic honorable mention list. Owen, with a 3.52 GPA in general studies, also received the honor in 2000-01, while Smith repeated his honorable mention distinction with a 3.37 GPA in organizational studies.
In addition to the individual accomplishments, U-M ranked 14th on the list of the top 25 all-academic wrestling teams with a combined grade point average of 3.01.
