Kopicki has been planted in the all-important 8-seat of the first varsity eight boat all season. While in the stroke seat, she has guided Michigan's top boat to seven consecutive victories, including the Grande Final at the Big Ten Championships. The First Varsity Eight crew also garnered a school-record three straight Big Ten Boat of the Week awards April 7-21.
In 2002, Kopicki was a member of the Collegiate Rowing Coaches' Association All-Central Region second team and selected as U-M's Most Improved Rower. Kopicki is accomplished in the classroom as well, with three U-M Academic Achievement Awards and two Academic All-Big Ten selections highlighting her first three years at Michigan.
A Michigan athlete has been selected as the Big Ten Conference Rower of the Year three out of the four years that the league has sponsored rowing. In 2000 and 2001, Kate Johnson was given the laurel.
After taking this weekend off, No. 7 Michigan will return to the water May 17-18 at the Central Region Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The NCAA Championships take place two weeks later (May 30-June 1) at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind.
