PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan fifth-year senior captain Foley Dowd (Howell, N.J./The Peddie School) was named the Big Ten Conference Wrestler of the Week today (Wednesday, Jan. 21) in recognition of his performance at the Cliff Keen/NWCA National Duals last Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 17-18). The distinction is the first career weekly honor for Dowd.

Along with sophomore/freshman Mark Moos (Lorain, Ohio/St. Edward HS) at 125 pounds, Dowd also helped give U-M the early advantage in every dual meet and was a major contributer to the Wolverines' third-place finish.
Dowd is the third Michigan wrestler to earn Big Ten weekly recognition this season. Wolverines claimed this first two Wrestler of the Week honors of the 2003-04 season with junior/sophomore Ryan Churella (Northville, Mich./Novi HS) and Moos both receiving recognition for standout performances in the preseason open tournaments.
The Wolverines kick off their Big Ten dual schedule with a pair of meets against perennial powers Iowa and Minnesota this weekend at Crisler Arena. Michigan will face No. 10 Iowa on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and square off against No. 12 Minnesota on Saturday at 7 p.m.
