Walter Earns Big Ten Athlete of the Week Recognition

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan junior Rebecca Walter (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves HS) was named Big Ten Conference women's cross country Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (Oct. 19) after her performance at NCAA Pre-Nationals last weekend.

Walter earned All-America honors last season after leading Michigan to its second straight Big Ten championship and a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. She also earned Big Ten Athlete of the Year accolades after placing first in the conference meet.
Walter has been the first U-M harrier across the line in 12 of 17 scored meets in her career. She has led U-M in all three scored meets she competed in this season, led in five scored events in 2003 and four events in 2002.
U-M will compete in the final regular-season meet of the year at the EMU Classic on Saturday (Oct. 22) before heading to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Big Ten Championships (Oct. 31).
