The Wolverines extended their winning streak against the Hoosiers to 13 games with the 35-14 victory.
Michigan boasts a 14-1 record all-time at Memorial Stadium.
U-M has won six straight games at Memorial Stadium, with its only setback coming 14-10 in 1987. That loss in 1987 is the Wolverines' only setback to the Hoosiers since 1967.
Michigan improved to 67-28-3 all-time in Big Ten road openers, including 8-2 under head coach Lloyd Carr.
Carr picked up his 90th win as Michigan's head coach with the victory against Indiana. Carr has compiled an impressive 90-27 overall record in 10 seasons.
Freshman quarterback Chad Henne was named the ABC Player of the Game after setting career highs in passing yards (316) and touchdown passes (three) at Indiana. Henne completed 17 of his 21 passes in the game (81 percent).
Freshman quarterback Chad Henne surpassed 1,000-yard passing mark for the season (1,096).
Freshman Michael Hart became the first true freshman to start at tailback for the Wolverines since Ricky Powers in 1991. Hart finished with 20 carries for 79 yards and one touchdown. He also added two receptions for 36 yards.
Fifth-year senior wide receiver Jermaine Gonzales caught a 40-yard touchdown reception from Chad Henne on the Wolverines' opening drive. It was the second TD grab of Gonzales' career (20-yarder at Michigan State in 2000).
Braylon Edwards collected his fourth straight 100-yard receiving game of the season. Edwards caught eight passes at Indiana for a career-best 165 yards, including a career-long 69-yard touchdown pass from Henne in the third quarter.
With his 69-yard receiving touchdown in the third quarter, Braylon Edwards became the eighth receiver in Big Ten history to score 30 or more career receiving TDs. Edwards is second to Big Ten leader and former Wolverine Anthony Carter (37, 1979-82) on Michigan's career list.
Edwards added a 38-yard TD grab late in the third quarter to record his third multi-touchdown game of the season.
Edwards extended his streak to 31 games with at least one reception, and Jason Avant stretched his streak to 17 consecutive games played with a catch. Avant made two receptions for 27 yards against the Hoosiers.
Leon Hall returned three punts for a career-best 78 yards as the squad's starting punt returner, including a 76-yard return for a touchdown. It was the first punt return for a TD by Michigan since Steve Breaston scored on a 74-yard return against Illinois last season (Oct. 18, 2003).
Grant Mason had a 97-yard kickoff return to open the second half of play. It was the longest kickoff return for the Wolverines since Seth Smith went 100 yards against Wisconsin on Oct. 29, 1994. Michigan had not recorded a kickoff return longer than 60 yards since Smith's 100-yard TD return.
Freshman tailback Max Martin made his career debut at Indiana, playing on special teams and at tailback. He rushed seven times for 21 yards. Martin is the eighth true freshman to see action for the Wolverines this season.
Senior tight end Jim Fisher was selected as the Wolverines' special teams captain against the Hoosiers.
The Michigan defense did not force a turnover by the Hoosiers, the first time the Wolverines did not record a turnover in five games.
The Wolverine defense held the Hoosiers without a third-down conversion in the game. IU was 0-for-12 on third down while Michigan converted 10 of 15.
Michigan held Indiana to 61 rushing yards. It is the fourth time in five games this season that U-M has held an opponent under 65 rushing yards.
The Hoosiers were held without any points on the opening drive of the game for the first time in five games this season. Indiana had tallied a touchdown and three field goals on opening drives during its first four games.
Today's announced crowd of 35,001 fans is the smallest to witness a Michigan football game since 1998. A total of 34,193 fans were in attendance for the Wolverines' 48-17 victory at Hawaii on Nov. 28, 1998.
