ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan men's cross country team sent a seven-man contingent to the EMU Classic on Friday (Oct. 22) in the regular-season finale at Buhr Park. Junior/sophomore Andrew Bauer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser HS) paced the Wolverines in the 8,000-meter non-scoring event, claiming runner-up honors with a time of 25:25 to earn the final spot on the nine-member squad which will represent U-M at next week's Big Ten Championships.
U-M boasted four individuals among the top 10 placers as senior/junior Sean Moore (Saline, Mich./Saline HS), freshman Seth Thibodeau (Milford, Mich./Milford HS) and sophomore/freshman Brian Les (Elm Grove, Wis./Catholic Memorial) claimed fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively.
The Wolverines ran in a tight pack at the front of the 46-man field through much of the race before the opposition began to string across the course at the 5,000-meter mark. Bauer and eventual winner Josh Perrin pulled away from the rest of the field but the Wolverine was not quite able to catch the unattached runner down the final stretch.
Rounding out the U-M participants were junior/sophomore Joe Schramski (Troy, Mich./Avondale HS), junior/sophomore Ryan Gall (Livonia, Mich./Churchill HS) and sophomore/freshman James Reichardt (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS), who finished 13th, 14th and 17, respectively.
The Maize and Blue will kick off the postseason at the Big Ten Championships next Sunday (Oct. 31) in Iowa City, Iowa. The men's 8,000-meter race is slated for a 11:30 a.m. CST start at the UI Cross Country Course.

On the race ... "My plan going into the race was to hang with my teammates as long as I could and see if I had my kick at the end, which I did. The race felt pretty good. I was a little nervous about my back, because I basically blew it out last week; but I worked on it all week, and I didn't feel it at all today. So now it's on to the Big Ten race, which I hope to run with the same attitude as I did today."
