Edwards leads the Wolverines and Big Ten Conference with 58 receptions for 806 yards and eight touchdowns through eight games this season. He is among the nation's top receivers in 2004, ranking in a tie for fifth in receiving TDs while listing eighth in receptions (7.25 avg.) and ninth in receiving yards (100.8 avg.). Edwards has touchdown catches in five of eight games and is averaging a touchdown grab every 7.25 receptions. He needs two receiving scores to become the first player in Big Ten history to reach double digits in receiving TDs three times during his career.
Edwards has 213 receptions for 3,018 yards and 32 touchdowns during his career. Michigan's career reception leader, he needs 60 yards and five more touchdowns to pass Anthony Carter on those career lists. He is tops nationally among active players in career receiving touchdowns while listing second in receiving yards and third in receptions. He needs 194 receiving yards to become the ninth player in NCAA Division I-A history to have three 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
Three Biletnikoff Award finalists will be announced Nov. 15. The winner will be announced in December at the ESPN awards show at Walt Disney World and honored in February in Tallahassee, Fla.
A panel of writers and broadcasters and a handful of former receivers, including Biletnikoff, make up the panel selected by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, which sponsors the award. Pittsburgh's Larry Fitzgerald, a rookie with the Arizona Cardinals, won the 2003 award.
